Piedmont City School District Accomplishments 2022

  • Piedmont City School District ranked 6th out of 138 school districts in the State on the most recently released State Report Card with a score of 94.

  • Piedmont High School was in the top 6% of Alabama High Schools on the most recently released State Report Card.

  • Piedmont City School District had the highest score on the most recently released State Report Card in Calhoun County.

  • All Piedmont City School District teachers are Apple Certified.

  • Piedmont City School District has the highest percentage in the state, and nationally of teachers that are National Board Certified.

  • The system secured $4,966,758 in additional revenue via grants.

  • Piedmont City Schools received a 21st Century Grant to provide after school enrichment/tutoring.

  • Piedmont Education Trust (PET) awarded $49,699 in scholarships and $12,831 in Teacher Grants for 2022.

  • The Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama recognized Piedmont City School District in a 2021 report stating that “Piedmont was particularly well positioned to cope with disruptions of the pandemic and continue academic progress, thanks to its pioneering experience in digital education delivery.”

  • Piedmont High School

  • Piedmont High School was the District VI CLAS Banner School winner for the Piedmont Promise Project (3P).

  • Piedmont High School has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2022-2025.

  • #1 School District for ACT Scores for Graduating Seniors for District VI

  • #1 School District for College and Career Readiness for Graduating Seniors

  • Piedmont High School was rated in the top 17% of Alabama high schools.

  • Scholarships totaling $2,601,906 were awarded to the PHS Class of 2022.

  • All Piedmont High School core teachers will be certified as ACT Certified Educators in the 2022-23 school year. (One of the first in Alabama to do so).

  • Piedmont High School had a 99% graduation rate and 95% of students graduated with a college and career readiness indicator, the highest in the state of Alabama.

  • The football team won the 7th consecutive region championship and went on to win the state championship in 2021.

  • The basketball team won the 8th consecutive area championship.

  • The baseball team won the 10th consecutive area championship and was state runner-up in 2022.

  • The softball team made it to the state softball championship tournament for the 2nd consecutive year.

  • PHS had a winner and state runner-up in pole vaulting in state track.

  • PHS had three All-American Cheerleaders.

  • The Blue Knights performed for the Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary in Orlando, FL in March 2022.

  • The theatre department presented ALL TOGETHER NOW! at Shell’s Downtown. Three students participated in

  • The district Trumbauer Theatre Festival and all three were passed on to the state competition where one received first place in his division. In the Spring, Piedmont Learning Academy and Piedmont Centerstage Society partnered to put on a production of Disney’s Moana Jr. There were seventy performers and crew and a total of six impressive performances.

  • Piedmont Middle School

  • Piedmont Middle School has been selected to participate in the Amazon Future Engineer program for the 2022-2023 school year.

  • Piedmont Middle School Jr. High Girls basketball team won the county championship.

  • Piedmont Middle School had 3 teachers qualify for TEAMS (Math and Science Program).

  • Piedmont Middle School was selected to participate in the Dynamic Learning Project sponsored by Google, Digital Promise, & EdTech.

  • Piedmont Middle School was the highest rated middle school in Calhoun County by SchoolDigger.com.

  • Piedmont Middle School Math performed in the top 8% in each grade level of ACAP scores.

  • Piedmont Middle School 6th Grade Math ranked in the top 1% of ACAP scores.

  • Piedmont Middle School ELA performed in the top 20% in each grade level of ACAP scores.

  • Piedmont Middle School was named as one of 43 Highflyer Schools in Alabama.

  • Piedmont Elementary School

  • Piedmont Elementary School was 1 of 5 schools in Alabama named as a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School.

  • Piedmont Elementary School Principal, Brigett Stewart, was named Alabama’s 2022 National Distinguished Principal and has been named a recipient of the Terrel H. Bell Award for Outstanding Leadership through the National Blue-Ribbon School Program.

  • Piedmont Elementary School has a partnership with the JSU Early Childhood Department called “Cocky Reads” in which all first graders receive a book and a literacy activity to take home. This year we have added “Cocky Counts” to support the upcoming Numeracy Act. This partnership will be with JSU as well.

  • Piedmont Elementary and Middle Schools have a partnership with JSU’s Nursing Department and Sight Savers America’s KidCheck Program to provide annual head to toe health screening for PreK through 8th grade students.

  • Piedmont Elementary School has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School.

  • Piedmont Elementary School 5th Grade Math ranked in the top 4% of the state.

  • Piedmont Elementary School 4th Grade Math ranked in the top 10% of the state.

  • Piedmont Elementary School 5th Grade ELA ranked in the top 13% of the state.

  • Piedmont Elementary School ranked in the top 10% of Math Scores in the state.

  • Piedmont Elementary School was named as one of 43 Highflyer Schools in Alabama.
