Piedmont City Schools - Recent Accomplishments

 

  • Alabama has 137 school districts. 

    • Piedmont City Schools ranked 6th in the State on the State Report Card for the 2018-2019 school year with a score of 94.

    • Piedmont High School was in the top 6% of Alabama High Schools on the 2018-2019 State Report Card

    • Piedmont High School had the highest score on State Report Card in Calhoun County for 2017-18

  • All Piedmont City Schools Teachers are Apple Certified

  • Piedmont High and Elementary Schools have both been recognized as Apple Distinguished Schools

  • Over $2 million in scholarships were awarded to the Class of 2019 

  • Secured $1,016,333 in additional revenue via grants

  • Piedmont Elementary and Middle Schools received a 21st Century Grant to provide before/after school enrichment/tutoring

  • PET awarded just under $40,000 in scholarships in 2019 and over $10,000 in Teacher Grants for 2019.

  • Thirty-three percent (33%) of teachers in the school district have earned the prestigious National Board Certification (national average is 3%).

  • Football team was State Runner Up and won 4th consecutive region championship

  • Baseball Team was State Runner Up and won the area championship for the 8th consecutive year

  • Fishing Team made it to the State Fishing Tournament

  • Basketball team won 5th consecutive area championship

  • Coaches JoJo Odam, Rachel Smith and Steve Smith were selected Calhoun County Coaches of the Year.

  • Steve Smith won the FNN Network Coach of the Year and TV24 Coach of the Year

  • Blue Knights Band received Superior ratings at all marching contests and received Superior ratings at State Concert Band Festival.  There were 12 All County Band Members and many Honor Band participants.  The Blue Knights marched in Governor Kay Ivey’s Inaugural Parade.  One band member received a music scholarship from Jacksonville State University.

  • Theatre and Arts students participated in the Trumbauer Festival and received excellent markings.  Two students auditioned for scholarships and were awarded first place state champions in Duet Contemporary Comedic Scene.

  • The Fine Arts department received a $20,000 grant from the Alabama Arts Education Initiative.

  • The Theatre Department partnered with PLA to present “A Christmas Carol” and “Hairspray”.
