Superintendent Mike Hayes was named the District 6 Alabama School Superintendent of the Year. He is one of nine finalists for the 2025 Alabama School Superintendent of the Year.

Piedmont City School District ranked 5th out of 139 school districts in the State on the most recently released State Report Card with a score of 94.

Piedmont City School District had the highest score on the most recently released State Report Card in Calhoun County.

Piedmont High School

Piedmont High School has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2022-2024.

PHS 22-23 Report Card Score of 92 was in the top 11% of ALL schools in the state.

Twenty students were inducted into the ACT 25+ Club and six into the ACT 30+ Club.

For the state of Alabama, the Class of 2024 had the top 5% of English ACT scores, top 6% of math ACT scores, and top 9% of science ACT scores on the March 2023 state assessment.

All core teachers gained Apple Certified Teachers status and ACT Certified Teachers status.

PHS was one of the top schools in Alabama for College and Career Readiness for Graduating Seniors. GreatSchools.org named PHS one of the top high schools for college preparedness.

Scholarships totaling $4,192,069 were awarded to the PHS Class of 2024.

The football team is a 5-time 3A State Championship team. They have won 9 out of 10 of the last region championships.

The boys’ basketball team won the 10th consecutive area championship. The girls won the area championship.

The baseball team won the 12th consecutive area championship and made the state playoffs.

State track individuals won second place for girl’s pole vault, third place for relay team, girls 800-meter run, and boys’ long jump.

The fishing team qualified for the National Championship competition.

The Fine Arts department received a $20,000 grant from The Alabama Arts Education Initiative

The Centerstage Theater Club participated in the District Level and State Level Trumbauer Theatre Festival. Multiple students placed in their categories. The club partnered with the Piedmont Blue Knights to produce “A Christmas Spectacular” and the final performance for the year was “Frozen Jr”.

The concert band received “All Superior” ratings at the state Music Performance Assessment.

The Blue Knights Marching band won first place in class 2A at the Sand Mountain Invitational Band Competition. The band also performed at Universal Studios in Orlando, FL.

Piedmont Middle School 22-23 Report Card Score of 93 was in the top 9% of ALL schools in the state.

Piedmont Elementary School

Piedmont Elementary School was named as a National Title I Distinguished School.

Piedmont Elementary School was 1 of 5 schools in Alabama named as a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School.

Piedmont Elementary School 22-23 Report Card Score of 94 was in the top 7% of all schools in the state.

Piedmont Elementary School has a partnership with the JSU Early Childhood Department called “Cocky Reads” in which all first graders receive a book and a literacy activity to take home and “Cocky Counts” to support the Numeracy Act.

Piedmont Elementary and Middle Schools have a partnership with JSU’s Nursing Department and Sight Savers America’s KidCheck Program to provide annual head to toe health screening for PreK through 8th grade students.
